A roof that had reached the end — stripped back to bare trusses and rebuilt as a new insulated metal system, beside a live railway.
Before
Rotten decking, failed coverings and daylight through the boarding. The roof had been patched for years and the patches had failed too. Once it was opened up, the original timber and steel trusses were exposed along with everything that had been left on top of them.
On the other side of the parapet is an operational railway, which governs everything: no unplanned loads over the boundary, no debris, and possession-dependent working for anything near the edge.
The rebuild
Structure inspected and repaired where the survey found it, new deck, new insulated build-up and a new profiled metal outer sheet, sealed and flashed at every edge. Temporary protection went on as each bay opened and came off only when the new covering was closed.
The safety line and edge protection were reinstated as part of the package, so the building has a compliant means of access for whoever maintains it next.
